Wall to commemorate 850+ submarine officers from Cold War. Take a tour
The Port of Benton will dedicate a wall commemorating the 857 officers and crew who served on the USS Triton nuclear submarine at 10 a.m., June 14.
Some of Triton’s surviving veterans will attend the ceremony at the event, which will take place at the park where the decommissioned submarine’s sail and conning tower are on permanent display, 3250 Port of Benton Blvd., Richland.
Triton, powered by dual nuclear reactors, is noted for circumnavigating the globe almost completely submerged in 1960.
It was decommissioned in 1969. The sail and conning tower were moved to Richland and displayed at USS Triton Sail Park.
Tours will be available following the ceremony.
