Routine maintenance is closing a corner of the long-term parking lot at the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco.
The project began Tuesday and will take two to three weeks to finish.
The Port of Pasco advises airport visitors to avoid the marked-off area in the blue lot or use the green lot, which is also dedicated to long-term parking.
“There is plenty of parking,” said Buck Taft, airport manager.
The port, which operates the regional airport, is sealing and repainting cracked asphalt in the back right corner of the blue lot. The area is marked off but rows will be reopened as soon as work is completed.
Taft called it a maintenance project to preserve the aging asphalt. The full parking lot will require resurfacing in the near future, he said.
The Tri-Cities Airport has 2,014 parking spots, including 185 in the short-term lot closest to the terminal entrance.
It expanded its long-term parking to keep up with rising passenger numbers by adding 500 spots to its former credit card lot.
The credit card lot is now the second long-term lot, referred to as the “green” lot. All lots are now credit card only.
Taft said the airport has not run out parking since the lot was expanded. It came close last Thanksgiving, when it was down to just 17 spots.
The maintenance work is timed to wrap up before July, the busiest month of the year for air travel in Pasco.
The Tri-Cities Airport set a passenger record of 478,000 boardings in 2024, beating the prior record set in 2019. Through April, 2025 figures were running 10% ahead of the previous year
