Just 1 Tri-Cities restaurant check this week. Here’s what happened instead
The team that usually does food safety inspections for the Benton Franklin Health District had a busy week, despite doing only one restaurant inspection.
That inspection was of Kona Ice on Wellhouse Loop in Richland, which was awarded a perfect score.
Some staff attended a training course the week of April 26 to May 2, and other staff focused on temporary work related to the safety of Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
Staff also prioritized checking stores in the greater Tri-Cities area for a recalled baby product that could pose a choking hazard.
Complaints were reported nationally about Gerber Soothe N Chew Teething Sticks, which were distributed in Washington and Oregon. The edible teething sticks were sold in banana and strawberry apple flavors.
All batches of the product have been recalled and discontinued. People who purchased the sticks should return them to the store for a refund.
