Part of Columbia Park Trail is closed at State Route 240 after a fatal wreck.

Officers responded to a wreck reported near the Columbia Park Trail, Steptoe Street and Highway 240 roundabout about 9:20 a.m. on Sunday.

The crash was reported as a rollover to 911 dispatchers.

A witness told investigators that the vehicle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it hit the concrete base of the SR 240 overpass.

An AMR ambulance crew was in the area and stopped to assist, according to Richland police.

A person was trapped inside the vehicle, according to emergency responders, who then reported a person had died before they could be taken to a hospital.

The westbound lanes of Columbia Park Trail are expected to be closed for some time, but crews were working to open up the eastbound lanes, according to a social media post from Richland police.

The roadway was expected to be reopened by 4 p.m. Sunday.

They’re asking anyone with information about the wreck to contact the Richland Police Department through the non-emergency dispatch phone number, 509-628-0333, or online at the department’s website.
