A mother was booked into jail along with her son after he was accused of burglarizing a small business in Kennewick on Friday morning.

An alarm went off at On the Marq Sports Cards at 8390 Gage Blvd. at 4:25 a.m., and the shop’s owner used surveillance cameras inside the shop to see a person stuffing items inside a garbage bag, according to Kennewick police reports.

Officers arrived to see that someone had forced their way into the front of the store.

After a short chase of a suspect running to a car parked behind the building, police arrested Matthew R. Dobson, 37.

Inside the car was a large pry bar and other tools on the driver’s seat and in the backseat were unopened packages of trading cards and a display case.

In the front passenger seat was Robin M. Griffin, 61, who initially denied knowing Dobson, according to police reports.

She was taken to jail on suspicion of false reporting, and her son was booked into the jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary, obstructing law enforcement and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

The court released Griffin without bail, but Dobson remained incarcerated Saturday with bail set at $200,000.
