Longtime local NBC weatherman and ‘dad joke’ king, Monty Webb, is retiring
Last night, longtime Tri-Cities meteorologist Monty Webb announced his retirement from the local NBC station, KNDU.
After 10 years with the TV channel covering Tri-Cities, Yakima and Eastern Oregon, Webb’s last official day on air will be Jan. 3, 2025.
Monty Webb’s career in meteorology
He served as the chief meteorologist at KNDU, moving back to the Tri-Cities area in order to work closer to family. Before the move, he worked in Seattle, Chicago and Louisville.
Webb has earned four Emmy awards for his coverage.
His career in meteorology began in the Air Force. He moved to broadcast work in 1990, where he’s been since.
“I fell in love with weather as a kid and was very fortunate to have the Air Force send me to school for meteorology,” Webb stated in his online biography on the KNDU website.
But in Tri-Cities, he’s become well-known — and loved — for more than just his forecasts. His approachable personality is a fan favorite, as he always integrates his humor into the show.
In fact, he’s known for his ‘dad jokes’ bit, which has been featured on both the morning show and evening broadcasts.
Monty Webb’s retirement plans
A family man, Webb has always prioritized his family. He married his high school sweetheart in 1980, and they had three kids together.
The Webb family has a dozen grandchildren, with a thirteenth coming in January, according to Webb.
In his on-air announcement, the meteorologist said he would be spending his retirement with family and traveling.
Webb also plans to begin working with several veterans organizations.
