Rescue crews check Columbia River near Richland for possible missing diver

Columbia Basin Dive Rescue

Columbia Basin Dive Rescue responded Friday afternoon to a report of a missing diver near the Columbia Point Marina in Richland and the Interstate 182 bridges over the Columbia River.

Two groups of divers were in the water when another person made a call to 911 about 1 p.m., according to the rescue group.

A dive flag that had drifted down the river was pulled from the water with no diver.

It turned out that a diver had dropped the string attached to their dive flag. All divers were accounted for and were fine.

Benton County Sheriff’s Office divers also responded to the call.
