A person was hospitalized and a dog died in a Friday night fire that destroyed a Pasco house, according to the Pasco Fire Department.

Firefighters were called about 10 p.m. to a house on the 4400 block of W. Nixon Street and arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the single-story house.

One person, found outside the house with smoke inhalation and an injured foot, was taken to a hospital.

Two dogs also escaped the fire, but one was later found dead inside.

Firefighters initially fought the fire inside but had to withdraw because of electrical arcing.

Franklin PUD arrived and shut off electrical service, allowing crews to reenter the home and finish extinguishing the fire with the help of the Kennewick Fire Department and Franklin County Fire District 3.

The house was heavily damaged and cannot be lived in, according to Pasco fire officials.

The American Red Cross is helping those who lived there.
