The organization has a mission to install 26 new futsal courts in Washington by 2026, the year when the FIFA World Cup is coming to the U.S.

The bright blue and green courts — at Kurtzman and Highland parks — feature two anchored 10-foot goals and fencing around a 50-foot-wide converted basketball court.

Futsal is a small-sided version of soccer. It’s played indoors or outdoors on a hard, finished surface court that is slightly larger than a basketball court.

The grand opening event will kick off with an ceremony emceed by Brad Evans, Seattle Sounders First Team alumnus and a current brand ambassador. It will include remarks by city officials, local youth and a representative from American Family Insurance, the sponsor for the Kurtzman Park court.

There will be a ceremonial first kick on the new court, soccer skills training with Seattle Sounders coaches and other games. Community members are invited to play in guided scrimmages and free play during the event.

Giveaways include soccer balls for the first 250 children, branded gifts and t-shirts.
