A Pasco, Wash., man died in a motorcycle crash 17 miles south of Interstate 84, in Gilliam County, Ore.

The family of James “Jimi” Braithwaite, 58, has posted a GoFundMe, saying he was “a beacon of love, strength and kindness in our lives and in the lives of everyone he touched.”

The Oregon State Police said Braithwaite was driving a Harley Davidson south on Highway 19 when his motorcycle left the road and went down a steep embankment the afternoon of Friday May 24.

Braithwaite died before he could be taken to a hospital.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, according to the Oregon State Police.

According to the online fundraiser for funeral expenses, Braithwaite was known for helping others.

“Whether it was a neighbor in need, a friend going through tough times or a stranger who crossed his path, he extended his hand and heart without hesitation,” it said. “His generosity and warmth left a lasting impact on all who knew him.”
