Santa Claus made his annual Christmas appearance at the Kennewick Irrigation District office on South Ely Street in Kennewick.

The free event is used to collect new unwrapped toys for donation to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Families who donated toys received a Starbucks cup or bag of coffee.

Kids visiting Santa got a small Christmas stocking as a gift.

The KID district also handed out canal safety coloring books, water bottles and backpacks.

The Benton PUD, Benton County Fire District No. 1 and fire science students from the Tri-Tech Skill Center in Kennewick were on hand to give out the gifts, candy and holiday safety information.

About 300 people have attended the event each of the past two years, according to Matthew Berglund, KID public relations coordinator.
