The Bikes for Tikes non-profit organization was founded in 2009 by the Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 598 and through this year have donated 20,000 bicycles.
For the past 14 years, bicycles have been distributed by local community based organizations to families in crisis, special needs children, and as incentives for performance in nationally ranked educational programs, according to the group’s website.

A free safety helmet is also included with each donated bike.
Organizers say key community sponsors include Grigg’s Department Store, Bechtel, Three Rivers Convention Center, Battelle, Vintners Logistics LLC., CG Public House & Catering, United Way and Toys for Tots.
