Multiple stretches of highways south of the Tri-Cities were closed for a few hours Thursday night after slick roadways and fog made driving treacherous.

A nearly 40-mile stretch of Oregon 204 between Elgin and Weston was closed to all traffic for a few hours.

Interstate 84 also was shut down in both directions until about 11 p.m. between exit 216 near Pendleton and exit 265 near La Grande after a wreck involving several cars and trucks near mile post 227, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).

Fog made visibility difficult on the slippery highways.

Westbound I-84 also was closed to trucks and through traffic for a time at Baker City and in Ontario.
