Tri-Cities high school students are partnering with the Dust Devils to help feed Eastern Washington families.

The Dust Devils Game will allow teens to fill horse trailers with food donations for local families. The Benton-Franklin 4-H Council and 4-H Teen Ambassadors have partnered with Dust Devils and Second Harvest to host the food drive.

Attendees of the Dust Devils Game at Gesa Stadium in Pasco, Washington, and community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable unopened foods on August 1st, 2023.

All donations from the food drive will be going to under supported communities, according to a news release from Second Harvest.

4-H is a youth development program that aims to engage young people ages 5 to 16 in hands-on learning experiences and community services. The program focuses on experiential learning, leadership development, and building life skills.

“4-H kids not only pledge to serve ‘my club, my community, my country and my world,’ they live that service through their actions,” said Jason Clark, President and CEO of Second Harvest in a press release. “They also gain an appreciation for what it takes to get food from field to plate. We are so appreciative of their efforts to make sure food gets to their neighbors in need.”

The food bank, Second Harvest, is a nonprofit organization that supplies a network of partner food banks, meal sites and other programs that feed people in need. They work in 21 counties in Eastern Washington and 5 counties in North Idaho.

Donations can be dropped off at the stadium before the game from 5:30 p.m. until first pitch, 7:05 p.m., at 6200 Burden Blvd.
