The biggest food drive of the year has kicked off, to ensure local food banks are able to help families in need ahead of the holiday season.

This year marks the 21st year of the Octoberfest Food Drive by McCurley Integrity auto dealerships and Yoke’s Fresh Market, according to a release from McCurley.

Last year’s drive brought their total donated to over 1 million pounds of food. They also donated almost $59,000 in cash.

There are several ways to help.

McCurley will be donating a portion of money from car sales, customers can bring nonperishable food donations to their local dealership showroom or they can purchase a prepared bag of food items at Tri-Cities area Yoke’s for $5 or $10.

The food donations at Yoke’s are typically in brown paper bags on display near the checkout stands.

Donations at McCurley dealerships will be collected through Oct. 31, and they will deliver the donations in early November.
