Dead carp were spotted floating recently in a Columbia Irrigation District canal in Finley, raising concerns from some neighbors.

CID officials told the Herald that some fish die each year during treatments to kill algae by reducing available oxygen, but there is no danger to people or pets.

Finley resident Crissy Klages, who says she walks daily along the stretch of canal near Oak Street, said she saw hundreds of the dead fish in the water.
