Target shooting sparked a Benton County brush fire on Saturday.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said that people target shooting on Bureau Of Land Management land in rural Benton County was the cause of a blaze on Saturday, according to a social media post.

The fire happened south of Benton City off of Webber Canyon Road near County Well Road. Benton County Fire District #2 responded and helped helped contain the blaze.

The fire will now be investigated by the Department of Natural Resources.

The sheriff’s office wants to encourage residents to avoid target shooting in areas with dry grass during hot weather.
