Airfares are soaring. But these Tri-Cities ‘inflation crushing’ flights are half price
Summers plans were dashed for many this year when inflation and war sent the cost of airfare into the stratosphere, but one Tri-Cities airline is offering a steep discount for a limited time.
Earlier this year the price of flights began increasingly dramatic after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and they don’t appear to be dropping any time soon.
Those troubles combined with staffing issues, rising gas prices and inflation means airfares are now up about 47%, according to the LA Times. Their data suggests that flights right now are $100 more on average than in 2019.
For the next week though, cheap flights are back on the menu locally.
Avelo Airlines is running an “inflation crushing” special for flights to the LA Burbank airport, according to a news release. They’re offering tickets at half off for direct flights from the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco to Los Angeles County.
It sounds too good, to be true, so we checked the prices.
Many flights eligible for the discount will end up being less than $50, or under $100 round trip. Suddenly that trip to Disney, the beach or a visit to the Hollywood Walk of Fame doesn’t seem so unrealistic.
“This significant discount is our way of making travel easier and more affordable amidst skyrocketing inflation,” said Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy in the release. “Our purpose is to Inspire Travel by helping our customers save money so they can travel more. By offering 50% off our already everyday low fares, we want to help travelers continue to explore exciting destinations, create new memories, and reconnect with family and friends during this economically challenging time.”
The discount, which is applied by using promo code “Halfoff” during booking, runs through June 23, and is good for flights through Nov. 9.
There are some caveats though, Avelo flies to Burbank out of Pasco only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday each week, and there’s often only one flight each day.
For a round trip flight leaving Tri-Cities on Saturday, July 16, and returning from LA on Tuesday, July 19, Avelo is offering a nonstop round-trip ticket at $157 before the discount, or $78.50 after.
Comparable flights on those days from Delta start at $578 round-trip and $638 through United, with connections.
