Work starts to replace 45-year-old Kennewick fire station
Kennewick Fire Chief Chad Michael, right, is joined by Kennewick Mayor Bill McKay and a group of firefighters during the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Fire Station 1 in downtown Kennewick.
The new 21,000-square-foot, two-story facility is being built on 2.4 acres on the 300 block of West 10th Avenue.
The new $12.7 million project is replacing the current station that opened in 1977 and is being funded through council bonds.
It will include administrative offices and is expected to take 12 month to complete.
About 40 people attended the ceremony.
