Salmon Summit returns students to Columbia River shoreline

Dozens of Richland elementary students kneel Wednesday at the edge of the Columbia River in Columbia Park to release their juvenile salmon during a special field trip to the Benton Conservation District’s two-day Salmon Summit.

After a two-year COVID pause, about 3,000 local students attended in person at the Kennewick park and another 3,000 across the Washington state participated online.

It’s the culmination of the Salmon in the Classroom program on the lifecycle of the fish.
