Body of 72-year-old woman discovered inside burned Kennewick mobile home
The body of a 72-year-old woman was found dead in the mobile home that burned in east Kennewick on Monday.
She was found in the kitchen area of the destroyed double-wide mobile home, said Benton Fire District 1 Chief Lonnie Click.
The fire was so fierce that officials didn’t know for more than an hour after they arrived that someone was inside.
Because of the intensity of the fire, her identity still needs to be confirmed, said officials.
Lt. Jason Erickson said detectives with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the circumstances around her death.
“We don’t know if it’s a homicide yet or not,” Erickson told the Herald.
The cause of the fire also is not yet known.
Benton County Coroner Bill Leach said an autopsy has been set for 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Fire crews were called out just after 10:30 a.m. to the home at 1405 S. Elm St., just west of the Benton County Fairgrounds. The body wasn’t discovered until nearly noon, said Click.
The building is an 1,100-square-foot double-wide mobile home built in 1973, according to Benton County Assessor’s Office records.
