Author and illustrator Rafael López will visit the Kennewick Mid-Columbia Libraries for an in-person event 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19.

Most recently López illustrated the New York Times No. 1’s bestselling picture book “Just Ask! Be Different, Be Brave, Be You,” written by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

As a child growing up in Mexico City, López says books were his ticket to distant and diverse places, and he was fascinated by imagery from different cultures.

Now, the author says, he wants children to see themselves in the pages of his books and be inspired to reach their full potential.

At the Kennewick library, 1620 S. Union St., López will speak in English with Spanish interpretation.

Books donated by Columbia Center Rotary and The Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia and will be given away while supplies last.
