3 escape as dramatic blaze destroys home near Benton City

A family escaped a dramatic fire that destroyed a home outside of Benton City Thursday night.

Smoke alarms alerted the three people inside of the home at 70504 N. Lob Lane, northeast of Benton City, to the fire shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to Benton County Fire District 2 Assistant Chief Dennis Bates.

They were able to get out of the house ahead of the fire, but one of their two dogs didn’t manage to escape.

The home was destroyed, but firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the nearby buildings and equipment.

Because of the size of the fire, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate what started it.
