Highway south of Pasco to stay closed this week. Falling rocks threaten both lanes

Crews are going to be stabilizing a slope after a rockfall shut down both lanes of a highway between Wallula Junction and the Oregon border.

Highway 730 closed Wednesday about 13 miles south of Pasco to just east of Hermiston in Oregon. There were debris and rocks across the highway, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The state hired Kennewick-based Apollo Construction to start removing loose and unstable rocks from above the highway.

Work is expected to start Tuesday and continue through Friday. The highway will remain closed while the work is going on.
