Rockslide shuts down highway south of Pasco to Oregon border

A rockslide has forced both lanes of Highway 730 to close between Wallula Junction and the Oregon border.

Washington State Department of Transportation officials said the highway is closed from about 13 miles south of Pasco to just east of Hermiston and Umatilla in Oregon.

Officials said the slope on the south shore of the Columbia River gorge along the highway remains unstable with rocks on the roadway. The highway was closed about 2 p.m. Wednesday and was still closed Thursday.

There was no estimated time for it to reopen.
