Divers investigate sunken boat at Richland marina park

Divers found no one was inside a 26-foot boat that sank in the icy water of the Columbia Point Marina Park on Thursday morning.

Richland police and Columbia Basin Dive Rescue volunteers were called to the public boat docks around 8 a.m. after passersby spotted the sunken boat during a morning walk.

The couple told investigators that the boat sank sometime during their hour-long walk.

They reported seeing it docked at the marina for four to five days before it sank.

Rusty Bell, the dive rescue duty officer, said the boat was empty when divers checked it out, but appeared that someone had been working on it.

Police are trying to find the owner.

Anyone with information on the boat is asked to call Richland police at 509-628-0333.
