Tri-City developer turning hotels into micro apartments donates old furnishings

Looking to save some money on some used furnishings? A donation from a developer could help shoppers snag a great deal on home goods.

Fortify Holdings, which is in the process of converting former hotel rooms into apartments, has joined up with Tri-Cities Habitat for Humanity to donate furniture and other items to Habitat’s store in Richland, 309 Wellsian Way. Proceeds from the store help support the nonprofit’s mission.

“Instead of selling it ourselves or throwing away the furniture, we believe it can improve lives in our area,” said Rob Jacobs, a Tri-Cities native and the regional manager for Fortify Holdings. “We believe in Habitat for Humanity’s mission and support its work to meet community needs.”

The developer is in the process of converting more than 700 hotel rooms at six properties across the Tri-Cities.

Fortify recently made a donation of 160 microwaves, 210 mini refrigerators, 100 table lamps and 60 standing lamps. They plan to continue donating items as they move further along with their renovations.

“This donation was one of the largest ever for us and a real game-changer for our mission,” stated Habitat’s Executive Director Jet Richardson. “We appreciate this generous, creative and mutually beneficial partnership with Fortify Holdings.”
