UPDATE: 75-mile stretch of Oregon I-84 reopens after 8-hour shutdown

A 75-mile stretch of Interstate 84 was closed in both directions early Monday after a truck crash west of La Grande caused a large fuel spill.

The I-84 eastbound lanes remained closed for eight hours until about 1:30 p.m. while the westbound lanes reopened sooner.

The key east-west route through Oregon was closed from Echo, Ore., just west of Hermiston, to two miles west of La Grande, according to state officials.

The closure took hours for the cleanup and crash related operations, said the Oregon Department of Transportation. Hazmat crews were called in to handle the spill.

The crash was about 5 a.m. Monday, though details of what happened were not immediately available.
