A man securing the load on his truck along the side of Highway 395 Sunday morning was hit and killed by a passing pickup truck.

The Washington State Patrol says Andres Trujillo, 46, of Sunnyside, had pulled his Dodge Ram pickup and a trailer over to the southbound shoulder of the highway about 11 miles north of Pasco just before 11 a.m.

He was hit by a Ford pickup, also hauling a trailer, driven by Darrell Slippy, 79, of Pasco, according to the WSP.

Trujillo died before he could be taken to a hospital. A passenger in his pickup was not injured.

WSP investigators said charges are pending.
