Woman killed in I-82 crash south of Tri-Cities. She was the 2nd driver to die Monday

A 35-year-old woman died after her car flipped on Interstate 82 about 14 miles south of Kennewick on Monday.

It was the second fatal crash of the day in Benton County. Both involved drivers alone in their cars who drove off the roadway and lost control.

Chelsea L. Johnson from Redmond was heading north on the interstate when her 2008 Chevy Impala went off of the road shortly before 6 p.m., the Washington State Patrol said in release.

The car flipped and Johnson died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, the state patrol.

The state patrol is continuing to investigate to determine why she lost control.

Earlier in the day, Kenneth Bloom, 65, of Kennewick, died after he lost control of his Kia Soul on Highway 240 and his car rolled, landing in Columbia Park in Kennewick. He was wearing a seat belt.

In all, the WSP investigated 16 collisions in the Tri-Cities area on Monday, Trooper Chris Thorson said. Most were caused by driving while distracted, driving too fast for the wet road conditions or following too close.
