Aerial stunts to thrill ‘Over the River’ airshow fans for 3 days in Tri-Cities
Capt. Kristin “Beo” Wolfe spends 110 days traveling each year with the Air Force’s F-35A demonstration team that landed in Tri-Cities on Thursday.
She’s the first woman to command the team, and over the next two demonstration seasons will oversee 40 shows including this weekend’s HAPO Over the River airshow.
The Tri-Cities show will feature not only the F-35 team but a F-16 flyover, an A-10C Thunderbolt II, civilian piloted biplanes and more.
“I loved flying the F-22, but the F-35 is also a blast to fly, and it is the best multi-role fighter,” Wolfe said in a story featuring her for the Air Force website.
She followed her father, retired Col. Jon Wolfe, into the service. He was F-4G electronic warfare officer and piloted F-15C Eagles, said the website.
Even then she said she didn’t expected to go into the military, but it wasn’t long before she was hooked.
“Whether it’s flying low-levels in the snowy mountains of Idaho, flying in ‘Star Wars’ canyon in Alaska next to glaciers, being inverted at 300 feet or doing a pedal turn during the routine, those are the moments I love,” she said in the March story.
The show was rescheduled from the last weekend in July, when it usually runs as part of Tri-Cities Water Follies which was canceled because of the COVID pandemic.
The airshow is Friday through Sunday. Gates open each day at 9:30 a.m., the show begins at 11:15 a.m. and wraps up at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $50 for two adults and one parking pass per day.
Add-on passes for additional people are $20 per adult and $10 per child. A maximum of five people per vehicle are allowed. Prices do not include convenience, processing and transaction fees.
