Traffic alert: Oil train hits semi off Highway 395 north of Pasco

A BNSF train hauling oil tankers hit a semi truck and tractor about 20 miles north of Pasco on Wednesday afternoon.

The intersection of Highway 395 and Eltopia West Road was expected to be closed for a couple hours, said a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

The crash happened around 2 p.m.

Drivers were directed to detour using Sagemoor Road off Highway 395.

The truck driver reportedly was not seriously hurt, according to initial reports. Witnesses said the truck was hauling french fries.

State ecology officials said there was no oil leak or other environmental problem.
