Mother’s Day: Food instead of flowers? Celebrate while sheltering at home
You can still make Mother’s Day special even while social distancing.
While flower shops are getting inundated as usual with orders, Tri-Cities restaurants and other businesses have other ideas to make it a special day and stay safe.
▪ Safeway and Albertsons have launched a new program to order flowers online for a curbside pickup at temporary flower stands at stores across Washington as well as Oregon.
Orders for Mother’s Day flowers may be placed at either www.safeway.com/orderahead or www.albertsons.com/orderhead through May 8. Customers will be emailed instructions for pickup on either May 9 or 10.
▪ Porter’s Real Barbecue is making a meal to feed a crowd — or maybe have leftovers for a few days.
The barbecue joint, with retail locations in Kennewick, Pasco and Richland, is cooking up whole cuts of briskets to feed 12 for $120 and pork shoulders that will feed eight for $70. Sides are available and an extra cost.
With every Mother’s Day special ordered, the restaurant will give a free bottle of sauce and six chocolate truffles from Nana’s Sweets and Treats Bakery - operated by the matriarch of Porter’s owners.
Orders are being accepted through May 9 — and delivery is available in addition to pickup. To order, customers are asked to message through the company’s Facebook page with your order and phone number for a call back.
Online menu and locations: portersrealbbq.com. Phone: 509-942-9590.
▪ Castle Event Catering will donate a meal to a frontline hospital worker for each Mother’s Day brunch purchased.
Choices include an Artful Smoked Salmon Board that serves up to six, Mom’s Favorite Brunch Bundle with a quiche, two salads, bread and dessert box that serves four or a bundle from 13 Bones Urban BBQ with meat, potato salad, coleslaw, rolls and a dessert box that serves four. An a la carte menu is also available.
Orders can placed before 4 p.m. Wednesday May 6 on castleeventcatering.com or by calling 509-375-4000. A $100 minimum order is required.
Meals will be available for pickup May 10 outside Castle Event Catering at 706 Williams Blvd., in Richland between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Exact times will be scheduled when placing an order.
▪ The Endive Eatery in West Richland will have wines and special dinners available to-go from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday during their Mother’s Day dinner pickup.
The cafe at 4001 Kennedy Road, Suite 16, will have a trio of wines available as a specially-priced pack featuring roses made from nebbiolo, syrah and cabernet franc. Each wine also is available to purchase separately.
Two choices of a three-course dinner will be available with one being a vegetarian option.
To order, go to bit.ly/EndiveEatery. For information, see their Facebook page or call 509-579-5852.
▪ CG Public House & Catering is delivering meals for free throughout Tri-Cities.
The Kennewick restaurant has two options for brunch, featuring a variety of pastries, egg dishes, meat and fruit and both with a choice of sparkling wine or cider.
For dinner, you can have either wine or sparkling cider with a main dish of lavender encrusted salmon or marinated trip tip accompanied by multiple sides. A dessert box also will be available for purchase.
Meals serve four people and are prepared for reheating. To order, call 509-783-0128 by noon, Friday, May 8. Online menu: cgpublichouseandcatering.com
▪ Magill’s Pasco, 3214 Road 68 in Pasco, is taking orders for Mother’s Day Brunch takeout as well as liquor add-ons.
Casseroles will be served ready to heat-and-eat and you can pick between Monte Cristo, eggs Benedict, berry french toast bake or old school feature hash browns and bacon.
Several different styles and flavors of mimosas can be added on to meals and any bottle of wine is 25 percent off.
Online menu on their Facebook page. To order, call 509-547-6448.
