Looking to lose some pounds? New fitness centers coming to Kennewick

Two new fitness centers are in the works for Kennewick. And a third has opened on Columbia Center Boulevard.

Each takes a different approach to fitness and bodybuilding.

Orange Theory Fitness is adding a second gym at 27th Avenue and Highway 395 in Kennewick.

The fitness center will be opening soon in the former Verizon store and Z Pizza, which closed last September, at 4101 W. 27th Place.

The other Orange Theory gym is off Queensgate Drive in south Richland.

The workouts include a combination of walking, jogging, running, biking and rowing. The workout changes daily and you go online to choose the time you want to join in.

Power Athletics Compound or PAC is adding its first Kennewick gym off Edison Street across from Bruchi’s CheeseSteaks just south of Canal Drive.

Construction is just getting started on the site. Bodybuilder and trainer Tino Robles currently has a gym near the Richland airport, at 1856 Terminal Drive, off Highway 240.

Robles started the gym as a way to teach others how to develop a bodybuilder physique “through hard work and exemplary self-discipline,” said the PAC website.

“PAC is the place to be, whether you are serious about lifting, and want to become a powerlifter or bodybuilder, or if you are like me: someone who was once intimidated to walk into a gym. Everything you need to train is here,” says the website.

“Possessing a supportive atmosphere with respectful people who give you your space, PAC is the place to call home. If you are looking for a real gym, not a spa with dumbbells, welcome home.”

And 9Round 30-minute Kickbox Fitness has opened in Kennewick, offering another type of workout for time-crunched individuals.

It’s at 321 N. Columbia Center Boulevard, across from Sporthaus.

9Round is a specialized fitness center that uses a kickboxing themed program and incorporates functional, interval, cardiovascular and circuit training, according to its website.

The circuit involves nine workout stations developed by Shannon “The Cannon” Hudson, an IKF Light Middleweight Kickboxing World Champion.

He and his wife Heather started the company in 2008 and the franchise now includes 750 9Round clubs in 45 states and 20 countries.

The 9Round centers have no set class times. You show up and a trainer shows you how to do each exercise based on your fitness level, says the website. Every three minutes, you change exercise stations so you get a full-body workout in 30 minutes.

And workouts change daily.

“They wanted to create a place where busy people, not unlike themselves, could go to get a killer workout without planning their whole lives around making a class time, or spending hours at the gym,” said their site.

“(Hudson) knew that if he could take the grueling workouts he did in the ring, and create a non-intimidating, convenient circuit workout format, the average person could enjoy the benefits of boxing and kickboxing without getting hit.”

“The company was founded on the idea that people do not need to spend more time in a gym, they just need more focus and intensity.”
