Bell-ringing ceremony in Pasco and other events to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Columbia Basin College and Washington State University are teaming up to remember Martin Luther King Jr. starting with CBC’s annual bell-ringing ceremony.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. Monday at the Martin Luther King statue outside the T Building on the Pasco campus. Then it moves inside the Gjerde Center.

There will be presentations by college’s leadership team, students, keynote speaker Tanya Bowers and the 2020 MLK Spirit Award winner. The Tri-City Community Choir and Miss Juneteenth Ja’Lani Green also will perform.

Also, WSU Tri-Cities’ Psi Nu Omega and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will be collecting gently used shoes and eye glasses as part of a Day of Service.

They will be at the Richland Community Center from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. before moving to the Richland campus MOSIAIC Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WSU Tri-Cities’ MOSIAC Center will hold two events on Thursday starting at 1 p.m. with a Civil Rights Organizations Workshop in Room 140 of the Elson S. Floyd Building. The workshop includes a presentation on the history of civil rights groups and the impact of student activism.

At 6 p.m. is a broadcast of comedian W. Kamau Bell’s one-man show from Pullman at the WSU Tri-Cities Student Union Building. All events are open to the public.
