This favorite Tri-Cities waterfront restaurant is reopening. See what’s new

A popular Tri-Cities waterfront dining spot reopens this weekend.

Cedars at Pier One had been closed a week for a quick remodel after new owners took over in December.

On Friday work was continuing but owner Doug Lundgren said they were 90 percent sure the restaurant would be ready to reopen Saturday.

Carrie and Doug Lundgren have said it was their family’s favorite place to celebrate special occasions, and they weren’t planning too many changes.

Fans of the restaurant will still find the same atmosphere, the same food and the same service.

But the building was due for an update in areas that were looking outdated or worn, said Doug Lundgren.

Some sneak peek photos on their Facebook page show red accents inside and out and new dining area flooring that replaces carpeting with wood laminate.

Cedars retains tradition

The new floor compliments the traditional Cedars look with an open ceiling, high beams and its landmark Columbia River view, he said.

The kitchen and cook line that can be seen from the dining area also have been updated.

The exterior has been painted to add more curb appeal. Additional painting to the rest of the building is planned as weather allows.

“We’ll continue to make small changes as we go along,” he said.

He is an entrepreneur who has owned restaurants, truck stops, orchards, farms and more. Carrie Lundgren is a local real estate agent.

They previously opened Holy Mac & Deli in the Southridge area of Kennewick in 2015 and expanded it to serve as an evening steakhouse, but closed two years later.

Lundgren said meat is his specialty, after working in agriculture and past ownership of a feedlot. The restaurant also has fresh seafood flown in.

Cedars longtime owners David and Darci Mitcham retired after working at the restaurant as teenagers in the 70s and later buying it.

“To say this is a bittersweet feeling would be an understatement,” said their Facebook post in December.

The couple put Cedars up for sale in 2017 but no deal came together for a couple years.

Cedars is at 355 N. Clover Island Drive in downtown Kennewick near the cable bridge.
