Benton City man dies in I-82 rollover that closed the highway for 2 hours
One Benton City man died and another was in critical condition Friday night after their car crashed on Interstate 82 just before noon.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused Timothy A Small, 58, to lose control of the Ford Mustang while heading toward the Tri-Cities.
The Washington State Patrol said the Mustang slid into the median and then flipped, landing in the westbound lanes one mile west of Benton City.
His passenger, Levi T. Small, 24, of Benton City, died at the crash scene, and Timothy Small was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
Both were wearing their seat belts and had to be freed from the car by emergency crews.
The crash forced the interstate to close in both directions for about two hours. It reopened at 2 p.m.
