Be ready for snow on Snoqualmie if you’re driving over the pass this weekend

If your holiday plans include driving across Snoqualmie Pass, double check your tire chains and cold-weather provisions.

The Washington Department of Transportation lifted its requirement Thursday for most vehicles to chain up, but the weather promises to remain sketchy on Interstate 90 through New Year’s Day and beyond.

Thursday, the highway is bare and wet with occasional light snow flurries, said the WSDOT website.

A winter storm warning has been lifted for the west slopes of the Cascade Mountains.

But the forecast calls for a chance of rain and snow Friday morning and again in the afternoon. The snow level will be near 1,000 to 2,000 feet, with a possible 1 to 2 inches.

After a warm up and more rain on Saturday, rain and snow will return on Sunday and on New Year’s Eve.

Snow levels will hover near 1,000 feet on Monday.

Also, traction tires are advised on Highway 12’s White Pass, where a chance of rain and snow are expected through the weekend.
