2-alarm blaze burns house in Richland neighborhood
Richland firefighters were called to a two-alarm house fire on Cullum Avenue early Wednesday.
The fire broke out just before 7:45 a.m. in a duplex near the intersection with Benham Street.
Firefighters from around the Tri-Cities responded to help.
The duplex was empty except for two dogs — the resident had left about 30 minutes earlier. One dog was rescued; responders were still searching for the other.
The neighborhood is filled with “alphabet houses” that date back to the start of the Hanford site by the federal government near the end of World War II.
The homes were named for letters of the alphabet — A houses, B houses, E houses and so on.
