UPDATE: Firefighters put down blaze near Highway 395 north of Pasco
Tri-City firefighters quickly put down a brush fire Tuesday near the King City Truck Stop north of Pasco on Highway 395.
Incident commander Ben Shearer told the Herald that the fire started around 3:30 p.m. near the highway as wind gusts hit at least 40 mph.
That wind sent the fire jumping several times along Kartchner Street in Pasco, including two parts of the off-ramp from the highway and all the way to Capitol Avenue.
Shearer said seven grass rigs and several water tenders responded to the fire, adding that it was under control in about an hour.
Firefighters were still at it by 6 p.m., Shearer said, making sure hotspots were put out as the wind stayed heavy.
The fire burned between seven and 10 acres, Shearer said. The fire closed the Kartchner exit as firefighters put it out.
