UPDATE: Tri-City drowning victim’s body found

Walla Walla County Sheriff’s officials said a man drowned Saturday after jumping into the Snake River near Fishhook Park.
Walla Walla County Sheriff’s officials said a man drowned Saturday after jumping into the Snake River near Fishhook Park.

A Kennewick fitness club manager’s body was recovered from the Snake River near Fishhook Park.

Jason L. Robinson, 39, of Kennewick, was reportedly on the boat with two people when strong winds blew his hat into the river. He jumped in after it without wearing a life jacket, sheriff’s officials said.

As wind and waves overcame him, the two people in the boat tried to reach him, but couldn’t.

Officials searched until sundown, but weren’t able to find him. It is believed he drowned.

Walla Walla deputies said they and Columbia Basin Dive Rescue searched for him for the past three days.

His body was found around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Robinson, an Air Force veteran, was well-known among the fitness community. He was the regional manager at Gold’s Gym for seven years before starting working at Club 24 Fitness in January.

A large group of people reached out through sheriff’s officials to offer their support to family and friends.

“We would like to remind everyone that this is an ongoing investigation and to respect the wishes and privacy of the grieving family and friends,” the sheriff’s office said.

A Gold’s Gym coworker, Ingrith Tillman, said he was a genuine person who was loved by everyone.

“I am truly thankful to have had the opportunity to befriend him,” she wrote on Facebook. “My heart is broken knowing such a wonderful person is no longer with us.”
