Police are hunting for at least one suspect after a person was shot Independence Day evening in Howard Amon Park in Richland.

Richland police say the shooting happened around 8 p.m. The shooting was between two groups of people who knew each other.

The victim was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Their condition is not known.

A Snapchat video of the event showed a person laying on the ground surrounded by people as officers came to help. The user could not be contacted.

Officials initially told people to not come to the park tonight to watch the region's firework shows.

Richland police later said the park was closed as investigators collect evidence.

Richland police are continuing to investigate a shooting that left one man injured Wednesday evening.

An official said the park is expected to reopen Thursday.

Hundreds of people fled their picnics and gatherings after it was apparent what was happening.

Richland Sgt. Drew Florence told reporters he couldn't remember a shooting in the park that happened with so many people in it.

Several people who said they were in the park during the shooting commented on social media.
