UPDATE: Search called off for missing swimmer at Palouse Falls

After two days of scouring the area, officials are calling off their search for a Colville man who disappeared beneath Palouse Falls.

Isaac Engell, 23, and two friends in their early 20s went swimming in the pool beneath the falls Saturday afternoon.

The current sucked Engell and one of his friends underwater. The friend made it to the shore, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies, Columbia Basin Dive Rescue, Franklin County Fire District 3, Pasco Fire and state park rangers responded to 911 calls around 5:30 p.m. and searched for about four hours.

They continued their search Sunday, but officials said the water beneath the falls still was too dangerous for divers.

Several people online identified Engell as the lost man.

The park still is closed.
