A stolen Hyundai Accent was pulled out of a irrigation pond Monday afternoon.

A South Columbia Basin Irrigation District employee discovered the car upside down in the water about 10:30 a.m., Franklin County Sgt. Monty Huber said. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly after.

The pond is off of West Vineyard Drive north of Pasco.

District employees routinely monitor the overflow pond as it drains through winter.

Columbia Basin Dive Rescue arrived at 12:10 p.m. and discovered the car was empty. Investigators pulled it from the 8-feet-deep water and found that the car was stolen from Pasco in 2016.

Huber said there were no tire tracks near the pond, leading deputies to believe the car’s been there for awhile.
