Footage shows part of Kennewick police shooting
Kennewick police have released footage of the Aug. 13 shooting of Hussein Hassan.
The footage is from four traffic cameras at the intersection of South Olympia Street and West 10th Avenue.
Early in the minute-long video, Hussein can be seen walking down the street. Something long and shiny flashes in one of his hands as he walks.
At about one minute in, Kennewick officers Joshua Kuhn and Jason Kiel can be seen pulling up to the intersection. All other cars have stopped.
Kiel stops in the intersection, while Kuhn stops before it. Hassan can be seen charging Kiel’s car just as Kiel gets out.
As Kiel and Hussein go off-screen, Kuhn gets out of his patrol SUV. He’s then seen drawing his sidearm and firing.
The video ends with Kuhn drawing his pistol toward him.
On Monday, the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office cleared the two Kennewick officers in the shooting. Kennewick police’s internal investigation also cleared the officers.
Kuhn and Kiel shot Hussein 10 times. He died at Trios Hospital in Kennewick.
