Benton County sheriff’s officials have released more information in the Sunday shooting south of Kennewick.

Investigators said Alexandria F. Babcock, 31, shot at her ex-boyfriend as he was walking between a garage and home along the 63000 block of East 99 Private Road SE.

The ex-boyfriend, 27-year-old Joseph Malek, was living in the home with Babcock, sheriff’s Commander Steve Caughey said Tuesday.

After Babcock shot at him, investigators said Malek barricaded himself in the garage and called 911.

Deputies responded to the home around 1:20 p.m. after someone called dispatch about shots being fired. They detained Babcock; Malek then left the garage. No one was hurt.

Deputies searched a car and found the .22-caliber rifle they say Babcock fired at Malek.

Two young children also were in the home at the time but were not in danger, Caughey said. Investigators released them to family.

Babcock remains in the Benton County jail on investigative hold for first-degree assault.
