Police investigating after fifth-grader brings pocketknife to Connell school

Connell police are investigating a weapons issue at Connell Elementary School.

A fifth-grade student brought a folding knife, or a pocketknife, to school, Police Chief Chris Turner told the Herald. The student appeared to be trading the knife.

The student may also have brought an Airsoft pistol at some point, Turner said.

No students were hurt and it appears no threats were made, Turner said.

“We are actively investigating that one,” he said.

Parents have said they weren’t notified in a timely manner by the North Franklin School District.

Superintendent Gregg Taylor said parents have been notified. He declined to provide any details on the matter, saying it’s being investigated.
