She woke to a stranger in the kitchen. Then the fight broke out

A woman is in jail after a bizarre home invasion and assault Wednesday morning in Richland.

Officers initially went to a call near Compton Lane and Spengler Street at the Richland Mobile Home Park. A woman reportedly was throwing bricks into the street.

Once there, police heard someone yelling for help from one of the homes.

Officers ran inside and found two women — the homeowner and Julie Bennett, 54, of Richland.

The homeowner told officers she’d heard a noise from the kitchen and went to check. She found Bennett rifling through her kitchen drawers and confronted her.

Bennett responded by hitting her in the head with a hard object, the homeowner said. That’s when the woman started yelling.

The woman was treated for a cut on her head and released from Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.

Bennett was booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and felony harassment.
