At least seven foster children will be celebrating Friday afternoon when they become official members of their new families during adoption ceremonies in Kennewick.

Benton-Franklin Superior Court will hold its 12th annual National Adoption Day event from 3-5 p.m. at the Benton County Justice Center, 7122 W. Okanogan Place.

The public is invited to join in the celebration in Courtroom B. This year’s theme is “A Family for Every Child.”

Every adopted child will receive a framed picture of their adoption proceeding and a stuffed teddy bear.

Miss Tri-Cities Hannah Mowry and Miss Tri-Cities Outstanding Teen Noel Anderson will be performing a duet.

The event gives families the opportunity to share their stories with the hope that others may consider looking into foster adoption.

In Washington state, there are more than 1,700 foster children who are legally free to be adopted into new families.

“We are thrilled to have new programs and tools working to help adoptive parents and children come together to form new families,” said Judge Dean Lum of King County Superior Court, and chair of the Washington State National Adoption Day Steering Committee. “Families form a bedrock of nurturing and support from which children thrive into adulthood. Families are critical to healthy futures and healthy communities.”
