Community invited to help name two new Kennewick elementary schools

The Kennewick School District is inviting the community to help pick the names, mascots and colors of two new elementary schools.

The schools — Elementary #16, which is being built in Clearwater Creek, and Dual Language Elementary #17, going in at the old Desert Hills Middle School site — are set to open in August 2018.

Suggestions may be submitted at ksd.org and are due by Nov. 17.

Under district policy, school and building names may be inspired by: individuals of local or national prominence in education, arts and sciences, politics, military achievement or statesmanship, or who’ve made other notable accomplishments; past U.S. presidents or U.S. senators/representatives from Washington; geographical characteristics of the area where the building is located; or other important events or achievements.

Each of the two new schools has a naming committee, which will submit top options to the school board on Dec. 13.
